The height becomes 900 px and the file typically drops from several megabytes to a few hundred kilobytes.
You can, but upscaling cannot invent detail that is not in the original, so the result looks soft.
Around 1,200 to 1,600 px on the long edge covers most full-width uses. Thumbnails rarely need more than 600 px.
The output keeps the original format unless you choose a different one.
